The league fined San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick $10,000 Thursday for wearing his Beats by Dre headphones during the team postgame interview last Sunday. The NFL had banned players from wearing the headphones during televised interviews in practices and games because Bose signed on as its official headphone sponsor. Starting before kickoff on game days and extending through 90 minutes afterward, Beats headphones cannot be worn by players.

That didn stop Kaepernick, though.

The quarterback, who appeared in a commercial for Beats last December, kept his bright pink headphones (you think he at least get a discount for supporting Breast Cancer Awareness Month) draped around his neck while speaking to reporters after the 49ers win over the Chiefs.

DeMarcus Ware said he and linebacker Von Miller are now in competition with each other to pressure the quarterback. (Helen H. Richardson, The Denver Post)

A few months after the Broncos signed DeMarcus Ware, the veteran defensive end said he and linebacker Von Miller aimed to be the league best sack tandem ever.

want to have as many sacks as one team, Ware said in June. and Von talk all the time about it. He threw a number out there, and I said, not be the tandem that can say it was the best in the league ever. That what you want.

Peyton Manning needs only six touchdowns to snap Brett Favre career touchdown passing record (508), a feat that could come as soon as Sunday when the Broncos face the Jets at MetLife Stadium.

As Peyton closes in on the record, his father and idol to Favre, Archie Manning, joined The Press Box on Thursday to share his thoughts.

are proud of Peyton and we really feel blessed I think Peyton feels blessed that he still playing football, Archie said. had a good run there in Indy, but four neck surgeries and we didn know, and for him, he worked hard and wanted to play again. I think the good Lord blessed him and allowed him to play again and put him in a good spot. So,

got a text last Sunday from Fran Tarkenton, and Fran said I don think Fran would mind me saying this but Fran said, hero was Johnny Unitas, and Johnny threw 300 touchdowns. I was proud that I threw for 342, but it really special for Peyton to reach 500 touchdowns. we proud. He been fortunate to stay healthy and play with a lot of good people. I do laugh he doesn do it much but somebody started talking about all the people who had caught his touchdowns, and there are some guys on there that I had totally forgotten about. A tight end who had played for the Colts for one year or something like that. I see every game and I can remember.

The Broncos have pledged $150,000 to Rose Andom Center, which will provide services to domestic violence victims.

The center is scheduled to open next summer in Denver.

Although the issue of domestic violence was brought to the forefront in recent months by the Ray Rice case, the team partnership with Rose Andom has been in the works for more than a year.

“There is no place for domestic violence in our society,” Broncos President and Chief Executive Officer Joe Ellis said in a statement. “It’s a very serious issue that affects so many, including children, and it deserves the extensive resources that the Rose Andom Center will provide to make a difference.

Real estate mogul and billionaire Stan Kroenke become the full owner of the NFL’s St. Louis Rams in August of 2010 after purchasing the interest of late owner Georgia Frontiere. To receive the consent of the other NFL owners, however, Kroenke had to agree to turn over control of his other professional sports teams in Denver the NBA’s Nuggets and the NHL’s Avalanche to his son, Josh, by the end of the year because of the NFL’s cross ownership rule. Per the agreement, Kroenke must give up his majority stake in the Nuggets and Avs by December of 2014.

But according to Sports Business Daily on Monday, the league is likely to give him a 12 month extension to transfer ownership to his son. (The NFL allows such in family transfers if the receiving member has no part in the team’s operation.) The deal would require Kroenke to inform the league by June of 2015 how he plans to divest his teams.

Aggression comes in many forms but few are as

attractive as the 2013 Dodge Charger. Dressed in an optional sport appearance package, the Charger is all about cool. It’s been around since the 60s, and the Charger just never seems to go out of style.

With its gloss black honeycomb grille in front and spoiler in back, our test Charger SXT attracted plenty of attention during the test week. We also noticed something curious: When we pulled behind slower moving cars on the Interstate, many of them tended to move to the right lane so we could go by. Maybe it was because our Bright White Charger with the black grille caused some drivers to think a police car was behind them, or maybe it was just coincidence. One thing’s for sure, if a white Charger causes slow left lane drivers to move over on the Interstate, I’d pay more to buy it.

One of the big news items on this model year’s Charger is a new 8 speed automatic transmission it’s the first domestic sport sedan to have one that helps the rear wheel drive Charger get up to 31 miles per gallon on the highway. AWD models get up to 27 mpg on the road. Our test Charger was equipped with AWD, which seamlessly transitions between RWD and AWD as needed.

Inside the cabin, the Charger is roomy and functional. The sport cloth seats in our test vehicle looked durable and were comfortable. The driver’s power seat adjusted eight ways and had lumbar support.

Dodge has also improved its Uconnect system with Garmin navigation and enhanced 3 D maps and route guidance graphics. Controls and gauges were intuitive and simple.

The new 8 speed transmission is phenomenal, but we weren’t a big fan of the new electronic shifter. Like some other models, the top of the shifter lights up with “P, R, N and D.” The problem is, your hand is on top of the shifter and you can’t see the letters. Intuitively, bumping the shifter back two spaces moves the transmission from reverse into drive, but with this version you also have to push the thumb button to shift. Admittedly, this isn’t likely a problem once you get used to the shifting pattern.

The mid range Charger SXT has some pretty nice features, including a smart key, remote start, a leather wrapped tilt and telescoping wheel with controls, Sirius XM Satellite Radio with a year’s subscription, and an 8.4 inch touch screen for vehicle and audio functions. For just $1,195 more you can outfit the Charger with a navigation and backup camera group.

While the car is cool, so is the sound system. Dodge has partnered with Beats By Dr. Dre to bring studio quality sound into the car by working with Dr. Dre and Jimmy Iovine to design and build the available 10 speaker audio system.

We didn’t come out ready to play, said winger Jack Kopacka, who opened the scoring with 3.8 seconds left in the opening period, helping the Hounds improve to 43 5 2 1 before 4,135 at Essar Centre. shouldn’t concern us at this point because there’s lots of season left. Los Angeles was a jittery, nerve jangling place in the late ’80s and early ’90s, and not just because of seismic events like the deadly Whittier Narrows and Northridge earthquakes. The fissures between rich and poor, black and white, the police and the policed erupted into deep fault lines, shaking the foundation of the city’s image as a sun kissed paradise. The violence that exploded in the wake of the 1992 not guilty verdict of the policemen charged with using excessive force on Rodney King would take more than 60 lives.Local rock music from Guns N’ Roses’ snarling “Welcome to the Jungle” to Sublime’s riot themed “April 29, 1992,” and a wealth of punk rock reflected the changing times. But nowhere was this more true than with hip hop, which may have been born in the shadow of New York’s skyscrapers but grew into something more raw under the harsh glare of the Hollywood sun. or the environment from which the members sprang. It’s a story of friends poet Ice Cube (an excellent O’Shea Jackson Jr., Ice Cube’s son), beat master Dr. Dre (Corey Hawkins), former drug dealer and money man Eazy E (an absolutely riveting and often funny Jason Mitchell), DJ Yella (Neil Brown Jr.), and MC Ren (Aldis Hodge) who grow together through music and then apart through success. It’s the age old story of artistic exploitation as manager Jerry Heller (Paul Giamatti) gets the guys to aim higher than playing at the local Skateland.Through him, they become stars and a media sensation with the album “Straight Outta Compton,

He’s replaced in their lives by the threatening Suge Knight (R. financial action for himself. In one of the film’s most intense scenes, the group members are forced to the ground and taunted by a group of white and black police outside a recording studio. It’s only due to intervention from Heller, who’s white, that they’re let go. The incident offers context to the group’s lyrics that some claimed glorified violence and, though it took place more than 20 years ago, its reverberations echo loudly with what’s happening today. It may seem odd to compare the hard edged Compton to the more blissful “Love and Mercy,” but the two films share more than performances by Giamatti as a music industry vampire. The two focus much of their time on the act of creation and, in both cases, it’s enthralling. In fact, the sprawling 157 minute “Compton” is at its best in its first half, when the guys are struggling for their art. It’s slightly less successful in portraying the negative fallout from their success, only peripherally wrestling with the issues of the rampant sexism (except for the group’s mothers, most of the women in the film are sexual accessories) or charges of anti Semitic and anti Asian lyrical bias that dogged Ice Cube in those days.It telescopes Ice Cube’s transition from profane rapper to “Are We There Yet?”/”Friday”/”21 Jump Street” film comedy king into just a few seconds and only hints at the mogul that Dre who last year sold his Beats headphones line to Apple for $3 billion, making him one of the world’s richest recording artists would become. But as a depiction of a time and place, “Straight Outta Compton” from its low rider Chevys on hydraulics blaring hip hop radio station KDAY to police batter ram vehicles crashing into suspected crack houses nails it.

SAN FRANCISCO Apple announced a major new foray into streaming music on Monday as it showed off a host of new software features for its iPhones, iPads and Mac computers.

The $10 a month music service is called Apple Music and combines on demand listening, a 24/7 radio station hosted by live DJs and a forum for artists to give fans behind the scenes content from upcoming releases.

The service, which was announced during Apple’s annual software conference Monday, will be launched later this month in more than 100 countries. It comes at a time when iTunes songs and album sales are falling, while streaming music leaders like Spotify and Deezer are gaining subscribers and revenue.

The music service was the biggest news of the company’s five day conference, but Apple also announced a host of new upgrades and services coming later this year to the operating software for its popular iPhones, iPads and Mac computers.

The new features include enhancements to Siri, the company’s voice activated digital assistant, as well as Apple Pay, Apple Maps and the Apple Watch. Executives also mentioned a new streaming TV service that Apple is reportedly hoping to announce later this year.

Analysts say the new services and upgrades, which will be available when Apple releases free updates to its iOS and Mac OS software this fall, are part of a broader strategy to make Apple’s devices indispensable.

While many companies make smartphones and computers, “Apple’s crown jewels are its software and online services,” said analyst Daniel Ives, who follows tech companies for FBR Capital Markets.

Some of the new features could provide new profits for the tech powerhouse. But perhaps more importantly,
dr dre beats headphones on sale Apple sets its sights on streaming music market
they may help keep customers from defecting to rivals like Google, which showed off new features for its competing Android mobile software at its event last month.

The Apple Music service represents a chance for Apple to come from behind in a digital music field that it once led. With a lengthy three month free trial, a $15 a month plan for up to six family members, and the ability to push the app to hundreds of millions of iPhone and iPad users, the launch could mark a major milestone in digital music.

Besides offering the new subscription plan, the app also will continue to allow download purchases from iTunes. It will be available this summer for Apple devices and Windows PCs, and in a break from Apple’s usual practice, it will also be released as an app for Android devices this fall.

The live radio station, called “Beats 1,” puts a twist on Internet radio, a field led by Pandora, by having human DJs host a constant stream of talk and music from Los Angeles, New York and London, led by former BBC host Zane Lowe.

“Apple Music is the next chapter in music,” CEO Tim Cook told an estimated 5,000 software developers attending the conference. “It’ll change the way you experience music forever.”

Speaking at WSJDLive, The Wall Street Journal global technology conference, Apple CEO Tim Cook said the company has 6.5 million paying customers for Apple Music and 8.5 million customers on three month trials.

The Journal reports that after the trial period, users pay $9.99 a month for individual subscriptions or $14.99 for families. The first batch of customers came off the trial period at the end of September.

SAN FRANCISCO Apple on Monday introduced new health and messaging features for the software powering the iPhone and iPad, laying the groundwork for a busy second half of the year as the company works to emerge from a stretch of slowing growth.

Apple released new mobile software, called iOS 8, at its annual developer conference in San Francisco. The software includes HealthKit, which lets people monitor their health and acts as a data hub for fitness apps. The company also showed products called ICloud Drive and Maildrop for storing and sending files, and an updated version of its Mac operating system dubbed Yosemite.

As smartphones and tablets with similar shapes and designs proliferate globally, Apple, Google, Samsung and other technology companies are focused on differentiating their products through software and services that run on the devices. The release of its new tools Monday shows how Apple is increasingly positioning its gadgets to be more of a hub for people’s lives, such as tracking fitness activity.

The updates offer a glimpse of Apple’s direction since the death of co founder Steve Jobs in 2011. With iPhone and iPad sales no longer the source of growth they once were, Chief Executive Officer Tim Cook has been under pressure to deliver another hit.

The event follows last week’s announcement that Apple is buying headphones and music streaming company Beats Electronics for $3 billion, another move to rev up growth. The company plans to keep the music and headphones products as a separate brand, a first for Apple, and the deal brings on board music industry veteran Jimmy Iovine and musical artist Dr. Dre. Iovine was among the attendees at Monday’s event, which is Apple’s 25th developer conference.

While Apple’s hardware is widely praised for its elegant and simple design, the reception to its suite of services for maps, photo organization and text messaging,
dre beat tour headphones Apple rolls out new features in effort to break from competitors
among others, has been mixed.

Apple said its new mobile software will be available this fall. It includes health tracking software, which shows the company’s growing interest in wearable technologies. Apple has been developing its own wristwatch like wearable device and hiring people with experience developing health related products. Apple said it is working with Nike and Mayo Clinic on the health software.

“We think this is going to be really important for health care,” Apple Senior Vice President Craig Federighi said at the event.

Apple, which has faced criticism from developers who said their apps are hard to find in the company’s crowded App Store, also displayed new search tools, new testing features, and new previews so developers can make short videos to showcase their apps.

The company also added ways for apps to work more closely with each other for example, a photo edited in one app can be quickly added to another one. The programs are currently isolated so data can’t be shared with another tool.

Apple also showed new mobile search features that give customers direct links to relevant web pages if they are making certain common queries, which will let a user avoid Google. The company added new text messaging features, including a predictive typing tool. Apple also introduced a new feature to help people store more photos on their iPhones, by letting customers store all their pictures on the company’s servers.

The company’s rivalry with Google was evident. Cook made several digs at Google’s Android mobile software, including criticizing it for having weak security.

Many of Monday’s announcements also focused on making iPhones, iPads and Macs work more seamlessly together be they text messages, constructing documents or making phone calls. The new Mac software has a feature called Handoff, which makes it easier to work on documents between Macs, iPhones and iPads. It also includes ways to receive and make calls from the Mac if an iPhone is charging or isn’t available.

Apple came to the defense of rapper and Beats co founder Dr Dre on Friday following his apology “to the women I hurt” as reports of his past altercations with women resurfaced around the release of NWA biopic Straight Outta Compton.

Apple, which acquired Dr Dre headphone and music streaming company Beats Electronics in 2014 for $3 billion and made Dre an executive, said the company believed in the rapper sincerity. “Dre has apologised for the mistakes he made in the past and he said that he not the same person that he was 25 years ago,” said Apple in a statement. “After working with him for a year and a half, we have every reason to believe that he has changed.”

Dr Dre, 50, a founding member of Compton rap collective NWA, the subject of Universal Pictures box office hit Straight Outta Compton, apologised for his actions from 25 years ago, which included an incident with female presenter Dee Barnes.

“I was a young man drinking too much and in over my head with no real structure in my life. However, none of this is an excuse for what I did,” the rapper, real name Andre Young, told the New York Times on Friday.

Dr Dre said he has been married for 19 years and is “working to be a better man for my family, seeking guidance along the way. I doing everything I can so I never resemble that man again.”

“I apologise to the women I hurt,” he added. “I deeply regret what I did and know that it has forever impacted all of our lives.”

The newspaper said Dr Dre pleaded no contest to assault and battery charges in the incident involving Barnes and was sentenced to probation and community service, while a civil suit was settled out of court.

Barnes wrote an essay for Gawker this week in which she rehashed details of the assault.

The incident was left out of the film that traced the origins of NWA and its members. Two other women, R singer and Dr Dre former girlfriend Michel and musician Tairrie B, told the Times that they too had been assaulted by the rapper in the past.

SAN FRANCISCO Apple is orchestrating a $3.2 billion acquisition of Beats Electronics, the headphone maker and music streaming distributor founded by hip hop star Dr. Dre and music industry impresario Jimmy Iovine, according to a published report.

Citing people familiar with the negotiations, the Financial Times says Apple could announce the deal as early as next week. In its report posted online late Thursday, the newspaper warned the talks could still collapse if the two sides cannot agree on some final details.

The potential acquisition would add Beats Electronics’ popular line of headphones and music streaming service to an Apple lineup that already includes digital music players and the iTunes store, the world’s top music retailer.

If the deal is completed, it would be by far the largest purchase in Apple Inc.’s 38 year history.

The Cupertino, California, company has traditionally seen little need to buy technology from other companies, reflecting Apple’s confidence in its ability to turn its own ideas into revolutionary products such as the Mac computer, the iPod, the iPhone and the iPad.

But Apple hasn’t released a breakthrough product since its former CEO and chief visionary, Steve Jobs, died in October 2011. The innovative void has increased the pressure on Jobs’ hand picked successor, Tim Cook, to prove he is capable of sustaining the success and growth that turned Apple into the world’s most valuable company and a beloved brand.

Cook has shown a willingness to spend more of Apple’s money than Jobs ever did. Among other things, Cook began paying Apple stockholders a quarterly dividend and has progressively committed more money to buying back the company’s shares.

Apple’s pursuit of Beats Electronics is the latest indication that the company is having trouble generating growth on its own. Apple already sells Beats Electronics gear in its stores, giving the company insights into how much the trendy headphones and other audio equipment appeal to its customers.

The negotiations also are taking place as the music market increasingly tilts toward streaming and away from the downloads that once drove the success of Apple’s digital music store, iTunes.

While downloads still command 40 percent of the market, streaming revenue now accounts for 20 percent of total revenue, up from just 3 percent in 2007.

Beats Electronics LLC was founded in Santa Monica, California, in 2008. Its headphones were manufactured by Monster Cable until the two companies parted ways in 2012. The headphones have become a status symbol worn by celebrities as well as audiophiles.
